Hello World!

This is my very first blog – basically just a test.

Naturally it must be called “Hello World!” I think this started with C. Every beginners book’s first program writes “Hello World!” to the screen – if it works. I have done the same with all new languages I have learned since.

The next thing is to create functions named “foo” and “bar”. That always made me uneasy. Why are they called that? Is it some kind of joke that all native-English speaking people learn in school? What am I not getting here?
I have seen it many times. I might have googled it, and forgotten again what it means. So now I googled it.

According to Wikipedia “foobar” dates back to World War II, and somehow via very vague Chinese roots means “Good Luck”. I will try to remember this next time.
